9 Tips to Better Utilize Your Coach

Besides your one-on-one coaching sessions, there are other times during your coaching process that you should consider talking to or involving your coach. Here are 9 tips to better utilize your coach.

1. Talk to your coach about any decision that involves anything over $500. This could mean when you are purchasing new equipment, adding new product lines, or starting new marketing campaigns.

2. Bring your coach along with you on team meetings or negotiations with key suppliers. It’s nice for your team to know what you and your coach are working on. Let them know what goals you have set and whether you reached them or not. Having the coach in team meetings allows them to see how you interact with your staff, and how they interact with you. Remember, you coach has experience in working with suppliers all over, so when it comes to negotiating prices, contracts, or orders, make sure your coach is there. Could help you save some time and money.

3. If your conscious is bugging you about a decision, call your coach. No point lying in bed at night wondering if you are making the right decision about an important issue. Give your coach a call and tell them all the facts. Your coach will help you make the right decision based on what is best for your company. They are your sounding board, so talk away!

4. Send them your financials on a regular basis. Financial statements are extremely important to your business, and you should be looking at them on a regular basis. So why not send them to your coach as well. This allows the coach to see the progress you have made as well as determine areas to focus on during your coaching session.

5. Get any and all marketing materials approved. Marketing is an investment, not an expense. It’s also all about measuring and testing. You want to make sure that your marketing piece is going to attract the right audience and send the right message.

6. Ask for accountability on specific items. So you want to make 30 sales call in a week, your wife wants you home every night for dinner, you want to lose an extra 30 pounds this year, you want to take your family on a vacation. You coach can keep you accountable for all those things and so much more! Accountability is huge in coaching.

7. A sudden change with the team or a team decision. Thinking about hiring or firing a team member. Talk it over with your coach before you make a move. You coach has you, the business owner, and your teams best interest at heart.

8. To vent. Everyone needs to vent sometime and coaches are great listeners. Don’t carry your frustrations home with you, call your coach and talk to them.

9. Provide accountability to your sales team. Not only do coaches hold you, the business owner, accountable, but they can also hold your sales team accountable. Maybe the sales team will get an extra day off if they reach their goal let your coach help me by keeping them accountable. Your sales team should know what the breakeven point is, maybe some of them need that extra push to reach that goal. Your coach is there to help your team. Because remember, you take care of your team, your team takes care of the customers, your customers take care of the business, and the business takes care of you.
