PA Farm Bureau Announces Jim & Rachel Shenk the Winners for YF&R Achievement Award

Jim and Rachel Shenk operate JimRay Farms, a custom square-bale haymaking and land management business. JimRay Farms also offers hay and straw brokering services and custom manure spreading. In addition to custom work, Jim rents land for his own use, raising organic and chemical-free hay. Rachel operates a separate bookkeeping & consulting business and also manages the accounting for the farm operations. Jim is on the Board of Directors of the Juniata County Farm Bureau and Rachel is the County Newsletter Editor, County Secretary and Assistant Treasurer.

Jim & Rachel were one of 3 finalists selected to compete in the state wide Young Farmer & Rancher competition. The winner had to achieve unusual and sustained success in their farming operation, and was also judged based upon financial growth & progress, Farm Bureau and other leadership positions.

The Achievement Award winner received $500 cash from Dodge, use of a tractor from Case IH, a $5,000 Financial Planning Scholarship from AgChoice Farm Credit, plus registration and lodging at American Farm Bureau Federation's YF&R Leadership Conference in 2008. The winner will also travel to New Orleans to compete with entrants from other states for national honors during AFBF's 89th Annual Meeting, January 13 - 16, 2008.

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau is the state's largest farm organization with a volunteer membership of more than 42,000 farm and rural families, representing farms of every size and commodity across Pennsylvania.
